Ulaayu Pilurtuut - Femme et bébé

Ulaayu Pilurtuut, Inuk

Born in 1964 in Kangirsujuaq - Nunavik and is now living in Kuujjuaq, which is the biggest community in Ungava. Her first drawings were done when she was nine years old. She uses black pigment ink with a touch of color to highlight the art. She also uses acrylic, oil, glass paintings and stencil on canvas.

As an ambassador of her ancestral culture, Ulaayu Pilurtuut teaches Inuktitut and tries to invent new ways of adaptations to the modern world through artistic expression. She was selected by the Royal Canadian Mint to create two images, part of an Aboriginal coin series launched in 2013 and 2020.
