Ulaayu Pilurtuut, Inuk
Born in 1964 in Kangirsujuaq - Nunavik, she now lives in Kuujjuaq, the largest community on the Ungava peninsula. His first drawings date back to the age of nine. His works depict Inuk culture, way of life and nature. She generally uses black pigment ink and a touch of color which highlights the work. She works with acrylic paint, oil paint, on glass and stencils.
Ambassador of her ancestral culture, she teaches Inuktitut and works to invent new ways of adapting to the modern world through artistic expression.
She was selected by the Royal Canadian Mint to create three images for a series of Indigenous collectible coins launched in 2013 and 2020.
